My hometown Dresden is the capital town of Saxony. The federal state Saxony lies in the south-east of Germany. The town lies in the wide valley surrounded by the hills
covered with forest in the north and west, the national park "Saxony Switzerland" in the east and the mountains called "Erzgebirge" in the south. The national park
"Saxony Switzerland" is an area with a lot of rock formations. The rocks are consisted of sand stone. When the ice smelt some millions year ago, it digged the deep
valleys and the rocks in the underground. Dresden was mentioned the first time in 1206. The most famous king of Saxony was "August der Starke", who changed his
confession and got catholic. The reason was, he would like to become the king of Poland, that happened in 1697. Many buildings were created in that time. For
instance: Semperoper, palace Zwinger, church of our lady (Frauenkirche) and the church of court (Hofkirche). He spent more money for the projekts than he had in his
counter, so he had to sell soldiers to the king of "Preußen" in Berlin for being able to pay the bills. The porcelain collection is famous and some vases are called
"Soldatenvasen" because he paid with soldiers not with money. |
